Brien Lundin & Dan Steffens - Gold & Oil Stocks: Spin Outs, Near Term Producers, Growth Companies

Brien Lundin & Dan Steffens - Gold & Oil Stocks: Spin Outs, Near Term Producers, Growth Companies

The KE Report
10 days ago 54:29

Key Highlights

detailed
  • Lundin says K2 Gold is drilling straight down the Dragonfly trend and continues to deliver what he calls extraordinary drill results.
  • His bigger point is that the market is overlooking K2's outlying targets, which may get holes punched into them in this program or the very next one.
  • He notes the company is more excited about those other property targets than about the trend that currently dominates the discussion.

Lundin calls precious metals a full bull market, arguing the fundamental drivers are the most solid he has seen since the 1970s. Gold's September pullback tracks rising bond yields, not broken fundamentals — algo traders reverted to the old 'higher yields, sell gold' reflex. Beaver Creek chatter centered on spin-outs, 9.9% strategic stakes, and toll milling — renting mill capacity rather than building it. Lundin wants each spun-out asset valued individually, and reads a strategic's stake as validation only if they fund the next raise. Steffens says oil equities trade as if crude is $60 while it fetches $90; refinery outages, not crude scarcity, squeeze diesel and jet fuel.

Key Highlights

detailed
  • K2 Gold is on Lundin's recommended list and he is 'really bullish': the multi-kilometer Dragonfly trend at the Mojave project in California is the primary driver, with the company aggressively drilling it and getting results similar to its discovery hole.
  • He recalls a great discovery hole drilled around 2020-2022 of tens of meters at roughly 4-5 g/t, followed by a long wait of about five years for permits before follow-up drilling could start.
  • He flags the Stega target as a likely 'next big thing' for K2, reading between the lines of management's enthusiasm when that target comes up.
  • He cites a $25 million financing done before drilling, at no discount to market and with no warrants, as evidence of how smart, deep-pocketed investors regard the project.

Brien Lundin says gold and long bond yields are sending one signal — currencies will be depreciated to manage unpayable government debt. He favors producers: majors offer 4-5x potential with dividends and net cash, and eventually they must turn to M&A to refill depleted pipelines. Better-funded juniors now drill seriously, but developers advancing projects alone may cap takeover premiums near 20% instead of the 200% of past cycles. Strategic-metals politics invite government and generalist capital that ignores project economics, reviving deposits the industry had written off as uneconomic. Lundin stays bullish on K2 Gold's Mojave drilling, Prospector Metals around $0.80-$0.90, and Cabral's low-capex early production funding exploration without dilution.

K2 Gold - High-Grade Step-Outs Expanding The Dragonfly Zone, Mojave Project: 27.43m of 4.03 g/t Au

The KE Report

Key Highlights

detailed
  • Headline step-out at Dragonfly returned 27.4m at 4.08 g/t gold from a hole collared 40m beyond prior drilling, extending the known mineralized system.
  • Hole 24 also cut 3m at 17.5 g/t gold; Margarit suggests this could be the down-dip projection of near-surface mineralization (up to 0.9 g/t) seen in the earlier release.
  • Margarit argues the system is multiple parallel stacked structures rather than a single vein, with geometry 'coming into focus' and potential to widen at depth.
  • The mineralization is oxide-hosted; Margarit contrasts the multi-gram intercepts with typical oxide producers running 0.6–0.8 g/t gold.
  • First-phase program is 14,000m of drilling on the Eastside Gold Trend (part of the larger Mojave Project in California); 7 holes released so far with roughly 15 more in the lab, and assays expected on about a two-week cadence.

K2 Gold's Dragonfly step-out (drilling beyond the known footprint) returned 27.4m at 4.08 g/t gold, extending the system 40m. Multi-gram intercepts in this oxide gold setting outpace the 0.6 to 0.8 g/t grade typical at operating oxide mines. Arsenic geochemistry is vectoring K2 Gold's surface mineralization toward deeper, higher-grade down-dip hits. Rigs have shifted roughly 3km south to the Newmont target area within a 14,000m first-phase program on the Eastside Gold Trend. Drill assays are expected to flow every two weeks on a pad-by-pad basis, with about 15 holes pending at the lab.

The KE Report

Key Highlights

brief
  • The guest calls K2 'a very solid play going forward,' noting that recent drill results came in as expected but were released on a down day for gold, which muted the market reaction

The Treasury's doubling of long-bond buybacks signaled implicit yield control to markets, triggering a 4% single-day gold rally. Runaway US debt and deficits leave the Fed boxed in, reviving mainstream attention to the debasement trade via gold and silver. Mining equities are starting to leverage metal moves 3-to-1 (gold) and 2-to-1 (silver), with majors leading a roughly 35% monthly gain. Buying miners into the late-July to mid-August seasonal bottom can deliver a 30% head start versus entering later in the year.

Great Pacific Gold - Management Evolution & Wild Dog Drill Program Update

Great Pacific Gold - Management Evolution & Wild Dog Drill Program Update

The KE Report

Key Highlights

brief
  • Alex names K2 Gold as one of the Discovery Group issuers he has worked with since 2020, alongside Defence Metals and Valor

Great Pacific Gold (TSXV: GPAC) promotes CFO Alex Heath to CEO, preserving strategy while the 13,000-meter Wild Dog drill program advances four targets. After wrapping Cassie Ridge, the rig moved to Magiabe, where historical samples include 137 g/t rock chips and 8 m at 18 g/t gold. Great Pacific holds $22M in cash on budget, but assay labs running 6-8 weeks mean investors wait longer for drill results in a hot market. Wild Dog's 15-km epithermal corridor hosts multiple high-grade shoots rather than a single deposit, giving each successful target multi-million-ounce potential.

Brien Lundin & Josef Schachter - Navigating the Precious Metals Correction & Energy Sector Trends

Brien Lundin & Josef Schachter - Navigating the Precious Metals Correction & Energy Sector Trends

The KE Report

Key Highlights

brief
  • Has a pending drill program that Brien Lundin says carries very high expectations into a weak market.
  • Lundin calls the setup binary: truly great results should still be rewarded, perhaps at 80% of the normal move, while merely good news would likely be punished.

Lundin argues the precious-metals correction reflects two temporary factors, Fed hawkishness and the Iran war, while debt and deficits keep the bull market intact. Lundin expects majors producing record free cash to buy juniors after a re-rating, an opportunity he calls lower risk at this point. For development projects, Lundin uses a conservative $150-$200 per ounce in the ground as a takeover value benchmark. Schachter forecasts WTI averaging $80 this year and $90 next on winter demand and Strategic Petroleum Reserve restocking, with shale breakevens flooring prices near $65. Nathan Ritchie models producers at $80 oil and $2.50 gas in Alberta, favoring names trading near three to four times cashflow.

Brien Lundin – Emerging From The PM Market Malaise In Q2, To Better Seasonality & Sector News In Q3

The KE Report

Key Highlights

detailed
  • The guest says drilling is now under way at K2 Gold's Mojave Project in Southern California and that it "could turn up some of the big discoveries of this season."
  • The program follows up on "extraordinary historic holes" and took about four years of permitting work in a pro-mining county — though, as he notes, it "still is California."
  • During the permitting wait the company delineated additional targets, and he says a lot of smart money has invested in K2 specifically for the Mojave Project.
  • The host adds that K2's last drill results came out in 2021, after bonanza-grade hits in 2020, so mid-2026 marks its first drilling in roughly four to five years.

Brien Lundin argues gold's brief break below $4,000 flushed out weak hands, marking selling exhaustion and a likely bottoming process. He expects the Fed under Kevin Warsh to turn accommodative despite hawkish talk, because debt-servicing math caps how high rates can go. Dollar strength matters less for gold than many assume, since central bank buying and moves against all fiat currencies drive the price. Precious metals often bottom between mid-July and mid-August, and he says bargain hunters buying now can beat September-October buyers by 10-30%. He flags Prospector Metals, K2 Gold, Banyan Gold, Delta Resources and Auro Metals as juniors with drill results and resource updates due in Q3.

Erik Wetterling – Value Proposition In Integra Resources, Irving Resources, and K2 Gold

Erik Wetterling – Value Proposition In Integra Resources, Irving Resources, and K2 Gold

The KE Report

Key Highlights

detailed
  • The guest describes K2 Gold as an all-weather story that could do well in either a bear or bull market, noting the shares have held up better than most exploration names and that the market seems to know why.
  • He highlights that the Mojave project in California is more de-risked after an environmental impact statement was approved, removing much of the permitting and jurisdiction concern, and that drilling restarted there as of the June 25 news.
  • He points to past results that the market has largely forgotten, including 86.9 metres at 4 grams per tonne in the Dragonfly zone and strong 2020-2021 intercepts after which the project sat dormant, and argues their recent Nevada drilling showing a low-sulfidation epithermal system did not cause a sell-off.
  • He notes K2 Gold is backed by the Discovery Group, and cites the people involved, the backing, the prospectivity and the previous results as his reasons for interest, while disclosing that K2 and Integra are banner sponsors of his site.

Guest Erik Wetterling argues a producing mine can fund exploration and development, avoiding the need to raise equity for growth. Because producers are judged on cash flow, growth projects can end up effectively free for investors buying the stock. In weak sentiment, investors fixate on near-term cost increases and overlook longer mine life and reserve growth. Silica sinters at low-sulfidation epithermal projects rarely carry precious metals, so any grades stand out. Warrant and placement shares becoming free trading can force selling, giving patient buyers better entries.

Don Durrett & John Feneck Interview Blackrock Silver ($BRC | $BKRRF) & Discuss Stock Insights

Investor TV

Key Highlights

brief
  • Pollard mentions K2 Gold — about 10 kilometers east and formerly known as Legion Gold — as one of the nearby Walker Lane projects that someone could consolidate around Blackrock Silver.

Blackrock Silver's updated PEA (Preliminary Economic Assessment — an early mine study) extends mine life 42% to 11.2 years with $190 million capex. The Nevada project plans 7.1 million silver-equivalent ounces a year at AISC (All-In Sustaining Cost — what it really costs to produce an ounce) near $1,744. Sitting entirely on private land skips federal review; one of three key permits is secured, with groundbreaking targeted for the second half of 2027. Guest Don Durrett sizes potential free cash flow at $750 million to $1.2 billion on $200 silver and calls Blackrock a top takeover target. Hosts also highlight Honey Badger's $11 million purchase of the 400-million-ounce Prairie Creek project from Canadian Zinc, calling it an unusual bargain.

Key Highlights

brief
  • The host reacts that K2 Gold prints as a six-bagger at $7,000 gold.

Raising default price assumptions to $7,000 gold and $200 silver reflects conviction that current metal prices undershoot the macro setup. Screening 90 favorite miners at those prices prints 20-plus-bagger upside for many, but most need three-to-four-year mine builds first. Near-term producers like Guanajuato Silver need no new growth, so they offer immediate leverage if silver reaches $200. A gold-silver ratio squeeze toward 2.5-3% underpins the $175-200 silver target alongside $7,000 gold within 24-36 months. Timeline to getting paid is the key filter: the longer a mine build, the longer investors must wait for the printed upside.

Erik Wetterling – Value Proposition In Montage Gold, Inflection Resources, and K2 Gold

Erik Wetterling – Value Proposition In Montage Gold, Inflection Resources, and K2 Gold

The KE Report

Key Highlights

detailed
  • Erik Wetterling frames Si2 as a low-cost, optionality-only swing for K2 Gold — the flagship remains Mojave, which already carries 'insane' historic intercepts and most of the valuation.
  • Si2 sits northwest of Tonopah, NV, and is explicitly modeled on AngloGold Ashanti's consolidated Silicon/Merlin project (~16M oz) — same low-sulfidation epithermal play in the same state.
  • Prior drilling returned ~0.5 g/t over 3.2m; the new program is roughly 2,000m at a cost he estimates around $6K — cheap enough that a miss does not damage the Mojave thesis.
  • Blue-sky scenario: a discovery could force a spin-out of Si2 as a standalone, since K2's market cap currently attributes almost no value to it; Wetterling backs the swing-for-the-fences shot given favorable US critical-minerals headlines.
  • K2 is well-funded and is a banner sponsor of Wetterling's site, so the Si2 program is funded from cash, not dilution risk.

Erik Wetterling argues Montage Gold still has upside on the second leg of the Lassonde curve, with ex-Endeavour management running ahead of schedule at Koné in Côte d'Ivoire. He frames Inflection Resources as a many-targets, AngloGold Ashanti-funded hunt for Tier-1 porphyries in New South Wales, where one discovery could rerate the stock. K2 Gold's Si2 drilling in Nevada is a cheap optionality shot at a Silicon/Merlin-style epithermal, while the Mojave project remains the flagship. Wetterling stresses probability stacking: even a sub-5% per-target hit rate compounded across Inflection's roughly 30 targets builds a credible discovery case. Disclosure: the guest owns shares in all three names and is a banner sponsor of K2 Gold on the Hedgeless Horseman website.
