John Skeet
Managing Director & CEO | Mithril Silver and Gold (ASX: MTH, TSXV: MSG) | Gold-silver mine builder with 35 years across Mexico, Australia, and the former Soviet Union
"Founder-deal-maker behind Mithril's Copalquin gold-silver district in Durango, Mexico; 35 years managing and building gold-silver mining projects."
Biography
John Skeet is the Managing Director and CEO of Mithril Silver and Gold (ASX: MTH; TSXV: MSG), a junior explorer advancing the Copalquin gold-silver district in Durango, Mexico. He is best known as the person who put Copalquin on the market's map: in 2017 he founded Sun Minerals to secure the rights to the high-grade district, then sold the company to Mithril in 2020 and took charge of its exploration. For investors following Mexican silver and gold, he is both the deal-maker and the operator running the drill program today.
His record spans 35 years in gold-silver mining, in management at producing operations and in project development across the former Soviet Union (including the Republic of Georgia), Australia, and Mexico. He has spent roughly 20 years in Mexico on projects including Palmarejo, Ocampo, Cerro del Gallo, and Copalquin. He holds a B.App.Sc from the University of Ballarat and is a Fellow of the AusIMM (the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, the region's professional body for mining engineers and geoscientists).
At Copalquin, Skeet's exploration thesis centers on a feeder-style epithermal system — an "epithermal" deposit forms from hot fluids close to the surface and often carries high-grade gold and silver in veins, while "feeders" are the deeper conduits that can host thicker, richer mineralization. Early results support the story: channel sampling (cutting a continuous groove across exposed rock to sample it) at the El Jabali historic workings returned up to 0.65 metres at 16 g/t gold and 1,275 g/t silver, and work at the historic Santa Cruz mine confirmed mineralization over a vertical range of 1,200 metres. His stated method is deliberate: multiple drill campaigns test continuity and scale across the district rather than chasing single showings, with a 3,300-metre maiden program at Target 3 designed around mapped veins and historic workings.
Investors can follow his progress through company drill releases and his appearances at events such as the Precious Metals Summit in Beaver Creek, where he has laid out the Copalquin case. What his career illustrates is a repeatable path in junior mining: identify an overlooked but historically productive district in a proven metals jurisdiction, secure it early, and let drill results — not promotional claims — drive the narrative.
