"Founding Standard Uranium ahead of the uranium bull market; Athabasca Basin uranium exploration advocate"

Mining Executive

Biography

Jon Bey is a capital markets executive and the CEO & Director of Standard Uranium Ltd. (TSX-V: STND | OTCQB: STTDF), a Canadian junior uranium exploration company. With over 15 years of experience in the junior mining and exploration industry, Bey has built a career spanning multiple commodities including uranium, gold, silver, lead, zinc, diamonds, and oil and gas. He has held leadership positions across several public companies, bringing extensive capital markets expertise to the resource sector.

Bey founded Standard Uranium in 2017 during a period of significant weakness in the uranium market, demonstrating contrarian conviction that nuclear power would become an increasingly critical component of the global energy mix. This forward-looking thesis has been validated by the subsequent uranium bull market, driven by growing recognition of nuclear energy's role in decarbonization and energy security. Under Bey's leadership, Standard Uranium has assembled a portfolio of uranium exploration assets in Saskatchewan's Athabasca Basin, one of the world's premier uranium mining districts.

Prior to Standard Uranium, Bey founded Steel Rose Communications in 2010, a capital markets and investor relations firm where he served as President and CEO for over a decade. He also founded Steel Rose Capital and has held roles with Ophir Metals Corp., Maz Mining, and Minas Metals Ltd. This diverse background across multiple junior resource companies has given Bey deep familiarity with the full lifecycle of exploration companies—from financing and project acquisition through drilling and resource definition.

Bey is an active participant in the resource investment community, regularly presenting at major industry events including the Metals Investor Forum, Vancouver Resource Investment Conference, and Proactive Investors' One2One forums. His public commentary focuses on uranium market fundamentals, the nuclear renaissance thesis, and the strategic value of Athabasca Basin exploration assets. For mining investors, Bey represents a knowledgeable voice on uranium sector dynamics and the junior explorer model in one of the world's most important uranium districts.

Why It’s the Right Time for Standard Uranium to Drill Again in the Athabasca Basin

Why It’s the Right Time for Standard Uranium to Drill Again in the Athabasca Basin

guest Jun 17, 2026
  • Top takeaway His top message is that drilling is back underway at Davidson River as of mid-June 2026, and he argues the new gravity data, expanded 8,000+ meter program and full funding make this the right time to drill.
  • He argues the southwest corner of the Athabasca Basin is the most fertile and most exciting uranium district for the next few decades, and that NexGen-style discoveries should repeat on the western side of the fold where Standard's ground sits.
  • He defends the 2023 shift to a project generator model as the way to advance more of the 12-project portfolio with partner money and cash flow while concentrating Standard's own capital on Davidson River.
  • On uranium prices, he says spot around $85 has been treading water for years, that the long-term price hitting $94 alongside a Cameco long-term deal is the positive signal, and that he expects spot to push past $100 and retail investors to return.
  • He argues uranium is not harder to permit in Canada than other metals, pointing to the recent NexGen and Denison mine approvals as the start of more mines being built.

Standard Uranium is drilling its Davidson River flagship again for the first time since 2022, using new gravity data (rock-density mapping) to sharpen drill targets. A $4 million raise expands the summer drill program to over 8,000 metres, and the company says Davidson River is fully funded. CEO Jon Bey says NexGen's construction licence and PCE growth show the southwest Athabasca corridor still hosts undiscovered uranium. Since 2023 Standard has run a project generator model — partners fund exploration to earn 75% of a project — freeing company capital for Davidson River. The guest expects uranium's spot price to follow its long-term price higher, viewing sustained moves above $100 per pound as the retail trigger.

The Discovery That Sparked a Uranium Rush

The Discovery That Sparked a Uranium Rush

guest Jun 15, 2026
  • Top takeaway Bey argues Davidson River's position — a 31,000-hectare package in the southwest Athabasca sitting beside Triple R and Arrow — is the foundation for building Standard Uranium around that ground.
  • He traces how the company got the property: a former Fission team member staked it during the 2012 staking rush and offered it to Standard Uranium in 2017, and he says they jumped on it immediately.
  • He credits Fission's 2012 Triple R discovery and NexGen's Arrow discovery with turning a corner of the Athabasca Basin previously thought to have no uranium into an active exploration area, followed by several more discoveries in the region.
  • He contrasts the basin's historical discovery record, which he places on the eastern side where Cameco's Cigar Lake and McArthur River sit, with the newer southwest activity that followed 2012.
  • He says the work since acquiring the package has been exploration, framing the thesis as proving the ground rather than relying on an existing resource estimate.

The guest argues one 2012 discovery flipped the southwest Athabasca Basin from ignored ground to an active claim-staking area. He credits Fission Uranium's Triple R find and NexGen's Arrow discovery with pulling claims and further discoveries into that corner. Standard Uranium's Davidson River covers 31,000 hectares staked in 2012, acquired from the original staker in 2017. Earlier uranium finds clustered in the basin's east, where Cameco's Cigar Lake sits — district attention can shift over time. The next step he describes is exploring the package, with no drill results or resource estimates shared in this clip.

Jon Bey argues uranium has shifted from a misunderstood commodity to a central pillar of global energy security, driven by rising nuclear demand. Standard Uranium’s flagship Davidson River project in Saskatchewan’s Athabasca Basin uses new geophysics and AI to refine drill targets and reduce exploration risk. The company employs a project generator model, partnering with other firms to fund exploration while focusing capital on its highest-priority targets.

Jon Bey argues the uranium market remains in the early stages of a larger macroeconomic cycle. Global nuclear power targets are continuously rising, driven by new goals from international organizations and the U.S. Investment opportunities are expanding across the entire uranium sector, including producers, developers, and explorers.

  • Top takeaway Says drilling at the flagship Davidson River project is set to begin in about three weeks (as of this late-April 2026 interview) and argues a discovery would be life-changing for shareholders.
  • Frames Standard Uranium as a high-torque, early-stage opportunity at only about $15 million market cap, sitting across the street from billion-dollar neighbours NexGen and Paladin.
  • Argues nuclear's growing dominance worldwide and countries' push for energy security have vindicated the thesis behind founding the company in 2017.
  • Champions a dual model in which JV partners fund exploration on tier-two projects and pay Standard Uranium in cash and shares to operate them, covering G&A while company capital focuses on Davidson River.

Standard Uranium pairs flagship exploration at Davidson River with a project generator arm: joint ventures (JVs) where partners fund work and pay Standard to operate. CEO Jon Bey links nuclear power's growth to energy security, arguing today's political environment pushes companies and countries toward nuclear. A $15 million market cap gives exploration-stage torque: drilling at Davidson River starts within weeks, and a discovery would be life-changing for shareholders, he says. Twelve Athabasca Basin projects (the world's top high-grade uranium district) are run by five in-house geologists at a company of fewer than 20 people.
