Jon Wiesblatt
Chief Executive Officer & Director | Trident Resources Corp. (TSX-V: ROCK) | Mining finance veteran building a district-scale Saskatchewan gold company
"Leading the district-scale gold build-out of Saskatchewan's La Ronge Gold Belt after a two-decade career managing mining portfolios"
Biography
Jon Wiesblatt is the chief executive officer and a director of Trident Resources Corp. (TSX-V: ROCK), a Canadian gold exploration company consolidating a district-scale land position in the La Ronge Gold Belt of northern Saskatchewan. For resource investors, his relevance is concrete: in January 2025 he closed the three-way merger of Eros Resources, MAS Gold and Rockridge Resources that created Trident, a company that now controls roughly 98,700 hectares of the belt and reports about 896,500 ounces of Indicated gold resources — drilled tightly enough to estimate with confidence — plus about 1.1 million ounces Inferred.
Wiesblatt built his career on the investment side of mining. Over more than two decades he worked as a mining analyst and institutional investor, managed several multi-strategy funds and a Canadian equity mutual fund at Sprott Asset Management, and advised Reichmann International Development Corp., one of Canada's largest family offices. He is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario. As CEO of Eros Resources, he negotiated the business combination announced in October 2024 and closed on January 24, 2025, then rebranded the combined company Trident in April 2025.
His record as CEO is measurable. In November 2025, Trident published updated mineral resource estimates for its Preview SW, Preview North, North Lake and Greywacke deposits — an 18% increase in Indicated ounces and a 190% increase in Inferred ounces at a US$2,600 per ounce gold assumption. In February 2026 the company closed an $18.6 million financing to fund its expanded 2026 drilling — a 20,000-metre program — and was named to the 2026 TSX Venture 50 list of top-performing companies.
Wiesblatt's approach is district-scale consolidation with continuous disclosure. Trident drills below and along strike of the Contact Lake mine, which Cameco operated from 1994 to 1998 and which produced about 190,000 ounces at 6.16 g/t (grams of gold per tonne) before gold traded near US$300. Winter 2026 hole CL26036 returned 15.11 g/t gold over 51.83 metres, and September 2026 results included 8.69 g/t gold over 11.97 metres some 220 metres below the historical workings, with assays released as they arrive. Around the flagship, the company advances Preview SW, Preview North, North Lake, Greywacke and Reindeer, and optioned its non-core Knife Lake copper project to Apogee Minerals to stay focused on gold.
Following Wiesblatt offers a working education in how a new Canadian gold camp gets assembled: consolidation, resource growth and financing under one roof, in one of the world's top-ranked mining jurisdictions. He lays out the district-scale thesis regularly in interviews with The Northern Miner, Resource Stock Digest and other resource media, and on conference panels including the Metals Investor Forum and THE Mining Investment Event.

Trident Resources is Building Canada’s Next Major Gold
- Top takeaway Argues the key opportunity at Contact Lake is at depth: the first released holes of Trident's program tested high grade well below the historic workings, including an interval of 8 grams per ton over 12 meters some 220 meters below the known workings, with most of the 20,000-meter program's results still pending as of the interview.
- Contends the La Ronge gold belt is underexplored for political rather than geological reasons, and that Saskatchewan is now the number three global jurisdiction in the Fraser Institute survey for mineral exploration and extraction.
- Argues the stock is cheap at around $55 per resource ounce as of the interview, versus North American gold junior peers above $100 per ounce and comparable high-grade underground peers in strong jurisdictions at $150-170 per ounce.
- Highlights a district-scale position of 100,000 hectares — by his account the largest gold landholding in the region — with 1.7 million ounces at slightly over one gram per ton across the Preview Southwest, Preview North and North Lake deposits within about 10 kilometers of Contact Lake, near Highway 102 infrastructure.
- Points to fast execution and a tight structure: roughly 36,000 meters drilled since the inaugural program began last fall (versus about 25,000 meters Cameco drilled in the 1990s), 41 million shares outstanding with 20% held by insiders, and a first Contact Lake mineral resource estimate targeted as the company works into 2027.
Saskatchewan's policy turnaround — now ranked third globally for exploration — left the La Ronge gold belt underexplored, and Trident has consolidated 100,000 hectares there. Contact Lake pairs a 1.7-million-ounce deposit package with a past-producing Cameco high-grade underground mine that stopped at just 340 metres depth. First new drilling in over 30 years returned 8 grams per tonne over 12 metres some 220 metres below the historic workings. At roughly 41 million shares and about $160 million market cap, the CEO argues $55-per-ounce pricing leaves a wide gap to $100-plus peers. No mineral resource estimate exists yet at Contact Lake; management targets defining one as drilling continues into 2027.
