Kenneth Cotiamco
Head Managing Director, Institutional Development | Commodity Partners | CEO at CHIP Data Centers; Vancouver-based natural resource investor
"Vancouver natural resource financier connecting critical mineral supply with data center demand through Commodity Partners and CHIP Data Centers"
Biography
Kenneth Cotiamco sits at the junction of two markets that increasingly depend on each other: data centers and the natural resources that power them. He is Head Managing Director, Institutional Development at Commodity Partners, a Vancouver-based natural resource investment firm, and CEO of CHIP Data Centers. For resource investors, his relevance is practical — he raises and deploys capital into resource companies, and his day job running a data center business gives him a buyer-side view of the metal demand that those companies create.
Cotiamco has well over a decade of corporate finance and investment planning experience, with business education at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). At Commodity Partners — a small private firm with an estimated nine employees — he leads institutional development, the work of bringing institutional capital into the firm's resource investments. The firm's stated strategy is to identify undervalued companies in the natural resource sector and finance them with its own capital, typically companies it helps co-found. Specific deals and returns are not publicly disclosed, and his record on individual commodity calls is thin — worth knowing when weighing his views.
His approach is that of a merchant banker (a firm that invests its own capital in private companies) rather than a stock analyst: concentrate capital in a small number of resource companies, take a founding or early role, and fund them to their next stage. His current investment lens is the data center economy. Facilities that house AI and cloud servers are materials-intensive — copper forms the backbone of power distribution and cooling systems — and the broader buildout pulls in critical minerals (metals designated strategically important, such as lithium and rare earths) along with large amounts of energy.
Investors can follow Cotiamco to understand how the data center boom translates into mineral demand and how early-stage resource companies actually get financed — a step in the mining cycle that draws far less coverage than drill results. His Pixys conversation, "Future-Oriented Companies: Technology & Mineral Innovation for the Data Center Economy," addresses that theme directly. Because his firm is private and its deal history undisclosed, his commentary is best read as the perspective of an active capital allocator in Vancouver's resource finance community, not as a published track record.
