Ned Jalil
CEO | Collective Mining | Former CTO of Kinross Gold
"Transitioning from Kinross Gold CTO to leading Collective Mining's Guayabales gold project in Colombia"
Biography
Ned Jalil is the Chief Executive Officer of Collective Mining Ltd. (NYSE: CNL, TSX: CNL), a gold exploration company working in Colombia. He stepped into the role in 2025, replacing Omar Ossa, who stayed on as president. Jalil's relevance to resource investors is straightforward: he is a senior mining engineer and technical executive who spent years at one of the world's largest gold producers before taking the reins of a high-growth junior explorer.
Jalil came to Collective Mining from Kinross Gold Corporation, where he served as Chief Technical Officer. Kinross is a senior gold producer with operations across the Americas, West Africa, and Russia, producing roughly 2 million ounces of gold per year. As CTO, Jalil oversaw the technical evaluation, engineering, and operational standards across that global portfolio. That background means he has hands-on experience managing large-scale, complex gold projects — the kind of operational discipline that matters when a junior explorer is trying to prove up a resource and move toward production.
Collective Mining's flagship asset is the Guayabales project in the Marmato mining district of central Colombia. The company has been drilling aggressively to expand the known gold-silver-copper resource, and Jalil's appointment signals a focus on the technical and engineering work needed to advance the project through successive stages. His specialty is the hard-rock gold sector, with a particular emphasis on project evaluation, mine planning, and the feasibility studies that determine whether a deposit becomes a mine.
Investors watching Collective Mining should pay attention to Jalil's commentary on grade, metallurgy, and project economics — the engineering fundamentals that separate viable deposits from promising but uneconomic ones. His move from a major producer to a junior explorer aligns with a common pattern in the mining industry: experienced operators joining younger companies to de-risk (reduce the uncertainty of) promising assets. Jalil holds an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, giving him both the technical and financial literacy that resource investors look for in management teams.
