Biography
Stefan Sklepowicz is the Chief Executive Officer of Kirkland Lake Discoveries Corp (TSX-V: KLDC), a junior gold explorer built around past-producing assets in Ontario's Abitibi Greenstone Belt — one of the most prolific gold mining regions in the world. He is the public face of a small-cap company that holds roughly 42,000 hectares in the Kirkland Lake camp and is now best known for a step-out drill hole at the Mirado project that materially extended the known strike length of gold mineralization.
Sklepowicz was formally appointed CEO following the company's 2024 annual general meeting, after serving in a prior operational capacity at KLDC. His background, as listed on his professional profile, centers on three disciplines a single-asset junior depends on most: mining operations, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), and investor relations. He completed his studies at the University of Ottawa.
Under his leadership, Kirkland Lake Discoveries reported one of the more meaningful exploration results from the Abitibi in 2025. On April 29, 2025, the company released drill hole M-25-04 from the Mirado property: 15.10 g/t Au (grams of gold per tonne of rock) over 12.0 meters at 44 meters vertical depth in the South Mirror Zone, taken as a 600-meter step-out from the existing South Zone. The hole pushed the South Mirror Zone trend to over one kilometer of demonstrated strike length and left the zone open in both directions along strike and at depth. Mirado itself is a past-producer — historically yielding roughly 38,000 ounces of gold between 1988 and 1992 across the Jovan, Narus, South and North zones — giving KLDC the unusual combination of existing infrastructure and untested step-out potential.
Sklepowicz's stated approach is to put capital into tier-one, road-and-power-accessible brownfield ground rather than greenfield frontier plays, and to grow ounces by drilling off the margins of what previous operators left behind. In a 2025 interview with Metals and Miners he argued publicly that the gold sector is heading into an M&A (mergers and acquisitions) frenzy as major producers run out of development-ready ounces and are forced to buy them from juniors. He has carried that message into appearances on the Triangle Investor YouTube channel, the Mining Stock Daily podcast, and the company's own KLDC Treasure Hunters video series.
For a mining stock investor, the relevance is narrow but concrete. Sklepowicz is a small-cap CEO whose track record in the public eye is short — formal CEO tenure measured in months, with one headline drill hole as the central data point. The Mirado result is real and verifiable in company filings; the broader investment case rests on whether follow-up drilling can convert the 1-kilometer strike into a mineral resource estimate (a formal, NI 43-101 compliant calculation of contained metal — the disclosure standard required in Canada for publicly traded resource companies). That, more than his public commentary, is what investors following his work should watch.
