Michael Oliver
LEGENDTechnical Analyst | Founder of Momentum Structural Analysis | Market Cycle Expert
"The analyst who called the crash — momentum reveals what price conceals."
Biography
In 1987, while most Wall Street analysts predicted a brief market hiccup, Michael Oliver's proprietary momentum-based analysis told a different story. He anticipated the crash and positioned accordingly. That success convinced him to dedicate his career to developing what he calls Momentum Structural Analysis (MSA)—a methodology that looks beyond price to reveal the underlying structural forces driving markets.
Oliver entered the financial services industry in 1975, joining E.F. Hutton's International Commodity Division where he studied under David Johnston, head of Hutton's Commodity Division and Chairman of the COMEX. In the 1980s, he began developing his own approach after recognizing that orthodox price chart technical analysis too often deceived those who relied on traditional breakouts, support, and resistance levels.
Since 1992, MSA has provided technical research to banks, hedge funds, mutual funds, registered investment advisers, and individual investors across all four major exchange-traded asset categories: stocks, commodities, bonds, and foreign exchange.
Most technical analysts say "price is truth." Oliver disagrees. To him, price can be deceiving—it's only by isolating the momentum in the market that you reveal the truth about the underlying trend. The Wall Street Journal featured his work in December 2015, noting that MSA looks at markets differently by tracking momentum rather than focusing on price.

Michael Oliver Latest on Gold, Silver, Oil and S&P | Recorded Evening May 15
- Top takeaway Oliver warns of an unfolding global government bond crisis that the Fed cannot control, arguing the eventual policy response will be massive money printing that drives gold and silver into a parabolic phase.
- He expects the S&P 500 near 7,500 to top in a 'happy' market phase, with only Nvidia, AI, and semiconductors masking broad weakness, and flags a potential sharp reversal if the index slips back below the 6,900 to 7,000 distribution zone.
- Oliver maintains an aggressive silver target of $300 to $500 by late summer, framing the move as an overdue logarithmic breakout from a multi-decade $4 to $50 range.
- He is bullish on gold from current levels near $4,600, citing historical eightfold bull-market multiples from the 2015 low near $1,050 and JPMorgan's $9,200 target as a baseline.
- Oliver is broadly bullish on commodities, sees oil pulling back into the $80s before resuming a multi-year bull trend, and expects copper to push toward $7 or $8.
The guest argues the 30-year Treasury breaking a multi-year basing pattern signals a bond crisis larger than the 2008 mortgage shock. Oliver calls silver his most explosive setup, reiterating a $300-$500 late-summer target after spotting a March bear trap near $61. He frames the S&P at 7,500 as topping, with narrow semis leadership reading as a blow-off top, not a new bull leg. Oil is in a major bull trend after a January $65 breakout, but Oliver expects a flush to $80 from headline-chasing longs before resumption. Bitcoin's rally to 80,000 looks like a counter-trend bounce in his view; a renewed break below 60,000 would put its viability in question.
Michael Oliver: Silver's Meteoric Rise to $500, Government Debt Crisis & Gold's Remonetization
Michael Oliver warns of a major government bond crisis driven by unsustainable US debt levels, predicting a T-bond market breakdown. Silver is forecasted to experience a meteoric rise towards $500, significantly outperforming gold in the current bull market. The structural breakdown in fiat currencies will lead to gold's remonetization, creating strong tailwinds for precious metals miners.
Silver Repricing Could Be Dramatic - Michael Oliver
Michael Oliver analyzes the silver market, forecasting a dramatic repricing event that could present significant upside for investors. The discussion covers macroeconomic factors and structural supply-demand dynamics that support a bullish long-term outlook for precious metals. Investors should monitor key technical levels and momentum indicators for confirmation of an impending breakout in the silver price.
Silver to $500 THIS SUMMER? Must Watch Stunning Forecast | Michael Oliver
Michael Oliver forecasts silver could surge to $300-$500 per ounce this summer, driven by momentum indicators signaling a 'phantom collapse' before the next major leg higher. Oliver warns of a looming U.S. government bond market breakdown that could force central banks into massive money printing, benefiting gold, silver, and commodities. Stock market rally may be part of a dangerous topping process similar to 2000 and 2007, while stocks, bonds, and crypto face major long-term risks.
Why This Rally Signals a Topping Market
Michael Oliver argues the U.S. stock market is undergoing a slow, multi-month topping process rather than starting a new bull trend. Current market behavior mirrors historical major tops, featuring sideways action, fake breakdowns, and final rallies that trap investors. A confirmed downtrend signal requires SPX to break below the 6600-6785 range, indicating underlying structural market weakness.
Stocks To Crash By 50%+, Silver To Surge Above $300oz? | Michael Oliver
Technical analyst Michael Oliver warns the S&P 500 and NASDAQ are in a major topping process, signaling a potential multi-year bear market with 50%+ downside risk. A massive asset rotation from overvalued equities to historically undervalued commodities is underway, driven by inflation and M2 money supply expansion. Silver is forecasted to massively outperform gold, with price targets reaching $300-$500/oz, making precious metals miners an exceptionally attractive investment.

- Top takeaway Calls silver's 30% one-day drop a buying opportunity, saying no momentum structure broke - only sentiment - and reiterates a $300-$500 silver target for 2026, much of it by summer.
- Argues silver is in a new-reality repricing like copper in 2005-06 and lead in 2007 after a 50-year $4-$50 range, with the log-scale breakout objective near $500.
- Sees silver outperforming gold - it sat near 1% of gold's price a year ago and is now above 2% - following the relative-performance breakout at the close of November 2025.
- Personally favors silver over gold and the miners over both; he says miners sit at the top of an 11-year relative-performance range and a breakout would produce a gusher in the group.
- Notes gold merely matching its prior 8-fold bull-market gains implies about $8,500 - a level JP Morgan has recently echoed - and dismisses the 1980 Hunt Brothers analogy because no structural damage appears on his charts.
Silver's five-year supply deficit and rising industrial demand anchor the bull case speakers make despite a 30% one-day price crash. Sprott managers call the selloff a buying opportunity: average in slowly, judge explorers on deposit size, producers on cash flow. Dolly Varden's merger with Contango pairs high-grade BC silver with an Alaska gold miner's cash flow and permitting expertise. AbraSilver and Aya are advancing toward bigger resources and record output, while Skeena is fully permitted and targets 2027 cash flow. Washington's critical-minerals push, including the $12 billion Project Vault reserve fund, and cheap grid power are reshaping mining economics.
Michael Oliver on What to Do Now with Gold, Silver, Oil, Uranium | Michael Oliver and Jimmy Connor
- Top takeaway Oliver calls the silver pullback a buying opportunity and expects silver to rise into the hundreds of dollars (roughly $300-500) within a couple of quarters, largely by summer 2026, and he favors silver over gold.
- He argues the one-day 30% drop broke only sentiment, not long-term momentum, because no structural support or resistance lines sit nearby as they did at the 2011 top and 2015 low, and daily momentum has already crossed a short-term buy trigger.
- He calls bitcoin a busted bubble whose rival-to-gold narrative is finished: momentum sell triggers near $102,000 preceded the crash to his stated $60,000 minimum target, and he treats any rally toward $76,000 as a sale.
- He says crude oil has turned after a long-term momentum breakout above about $63 and could rise roughly 50% into the mid-$90s within a quarter or so simply because it is historically cheap, and he has bought oil-related ETFs.
- His closing stance: he personally favors silver over gold and the gold and silver miners over the metals, expecting the miners, still stuck in an 11-year range of low relative-performance readings, to break out sharply this year.
Oliver argues silver's 30% one-day plunge broke sentiment, not momentum structure — trend markers on long-term momentum charts — and calls the pullback a buying opportunity. He reiterates a $3,500 silver target by summer, citing markets like copper that abruptly repriced after ending decades-long trading ranges. Silver near 2% of gold's price versus over 3% in 2011 and 6.5% in 1980 underpins his call for silver to outperform gold. Bitcoin's breakdown validated Oliver's sell triggers; he now calls it a busted bubble whose unwinding could hit companies with no obvious crypto ties. A momentum breakout above $63 suggests crude oil can reach the mid-$90s; Oliver favors commodity-related stocks, miners included, for multi-year positions.
Oliver Nailed $100 Silver - Now Calls For $300-$500
- Top takeaway Oliver calls for silver to reach $300-$500 in a 'new reality' by early summer 2026, framing the recent pullback from $120 as trivial relative to the move ahead.
- He argues silver is breaking out of a 50-year trading range (roughly $4 to $50) the way copper did in 2005 and lead did in 2007 — moving vertically in a couple of quarters rather than incrementally.
- He says the silver/gold ratio near 2% remains historically cheap versus 3.1% at the 2011 peak and 6.5% at the 1980 peak, implying large upside if it normalizes.
- He flags the US 30-year Treasury market as a potential 'nuclear event', arguing another three-point drop in bond futures could force a central bank panic-print response that drives gold and silver sharply higher.
- He advises buying every 10-15% pullback in silver rather than trying to time an exit, warning that a midpoint correction is likely but the move after it will exceed what came before.
Michael Oliver argues silver has broken a 50-year $4-$50 range and is heading toward a new reality of $200-$500 driven by monetary metal fundamentals. He expects the silver-to-gold ratio to revert toward historical 3-6.5% peaks, implying massive gains even if gold simply continues higher. The guest warns a US government bond crisis is imminent, with long-bond futures three points from triggering a Fed-panicking selloff. He recommends buying 10-15% pullbacks rather than trying to time exits, since mid-cycle corrections typically precede an even larger advance. The broader Bloomberg Commodity Index is also breaking out after years of quiet accumulation, suggesting a multi-year rotation into real assets.
